Role Summary
As a Fusion Research Laboratory Technician at Astral, you will engage in cutting-edge development of neutron sources based on fusion, which will have real-world societal impact long before a power plant is plugged into the grid. Your work will directly contribute to accelerating advancements in the fusion power industry in multiple applications, particularly supporting the domestic generation of medical radioisotopes and enhancing the accessibility and affordability of cancer diagnostics and treatments in the UK and, eventually, worldwide.

Key Responsibilities
Conducted hands-on assembly, testing, day-to-day running, and maintenance of plasma fusion devices and components, including vacuum systems, electronics, and high voltage.
Using various coding languages and interfacing with LabVIEW software.
Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team on fusion fuel cycle research projects.
Document experimental procedures and results for research and data analysis.
Be prepared to work in a fast-paced environment to drive forward innovation.
Work with electronics to find and fix faults and add sensors to the facility.
The ability to problem solve creatively and effectively by taking the initiative is essential.
Train on and adhere to stringent safety protocols, such as IRR-17, in a laboratory environment.
Manual handling training will be provided, which is an essential part of the role.
Requirements
Experience working in a laboratory environment with familiarity in high voltage and/or vacuum systems and/or electronics. Comprehensive training will be provided, but experience in at least one of the three is a must.
Experience conducting experiments with high-energy particle physics equipment such as particle accelerators, cyclotrons or research reactors is highly desirable.
Technical proficiency with laboratory equipment and diagnostics tools.
Familiarity with control software such as LabVIEW is desirable.
Experience working with radiation is desirable.
Candidates with their own transport and the ability to be located in Bristol is essential.
